Driving Instructor Verses Technology?

Volkswagen are offering a serious peace of kit on the new Tiguan, which allows the car to take the stress out of parallel parking for the driver.
‘Park Assist’ firstly uses a side-mounted camera to measure the space, to decide whether there is sufficient space to complete the manoeuvre safely, then using only the pedals, the driver slowly reverses the car, allowing the car’s computer to steer in to the space. There is also a rear-mounted camera to scan for any hazards as it reverses.
Driving Instructors however need not be too concerned at present, as the cost of this device, (RNS510 Satellite Navigation System £2,175 and Park Assist £450) will only be seen on top end models as an added extra, so the Parallel Park exercise will still be a part of the Driving Instructor’s day to day training for some time yet.
